The best free SEO tools

Here I will list tools comonly used in SEO. At this point I'll link you to two tools I consider as the best. They work as extensions (addons) for Mozilla Firefox and Flock. I'm not sure about other browsers but this is where I use them.

A bit about SEO strategy

My SEO promotion for my clients is based on blog commenting, sending mails requesting link exchange, forum commenting etc. The strategy for this client is a bit different from some other SEO strategies. I find this client valuable and it is very important to have a serious approach. SEO is lately misunderstood because of the wrong approach of small SEO companies who send spammmy link exchange letters to people, over-commenting on blogs which many admins find spammy, submitting clients to suspicious directories and such. Many people find SEO to be "black-hat" promotion because of that . For some, SEO is another word for spam. What to do about it? Well, SEO is something that might not bring results right away. That's the fact which many people (clients) don't understand. Sometimes happens that clients cancel campaigns and then results show up. That is something that forces small SEO companies to force link building through blogs (instant link appearance) and some directories or by buying links because that gives instant results.

Duplicate content

SEO is a constant learning and growing. It is not static. Always moving, changing, it forces us to to keep up with competition and trying to get above them. There is no final goal in SEO, (not yet). So, how to keep up with changes? One way to let the efforts pay off is avoiding duplicate content. This is something that can consume your time a lot with no particular result. You can spend the whole month submitting article to tons of article directories, e-zines, blogs and sites, with your link in it but it can turn out that the whole that effort was for nothing. Why that happens? You may wonder why because you have tons of web sites pointing to yours through the link in the article. Well, the answer is simple: your article is so much duplicated that search engines don't give any value to it. Search engines may find it on one web site, where they give "proper credits" to it, but if they keep finding it on and on they simply ignore it. Yes, they are that smart. If they weren't, internet would bee such a trash can (well, it pretty much is, isn't it?)

On-site optimization

An onsite optimization is consisted of various parts which all together can add "few points" to your search engine position.

This is what you need to take care of:

  • Title
  • Meta Keywords
  • Meta description
  • Use of H tags
  • ALT picture description

Link building

But there are some "side effects". There are some "rules" where to link and where not to, and whom to ask for a backlink and whom not to ask. Bad neighbourhood is something that needs to be avoided. But how to recognize bad web sites around you, especially if there is a "pressure" to position higher? There is no a recipe, but you can pay attention to some signs, like too many links on a web site (even in a link page), or a lame design (which doesn't necessarily need to be a sign, but together with other signs it can give a clue).

SEO in practice

One of the important lessons I learned from my experience with this SEO company is that good content is key to success when it comes to search engine optimization. Written content needs to be targeted specifically to the keywords you are interested in ranking high for, and it needs to have the proper keyword density as well. You need to avoid any duplication of content as well on your website, since many search engines will delete pages with duplicate content. The keywords need to precise and accurate.

Keyword importance

What the keyword is about? Lets say that the keyword is a key to the search engine door. If you don't focus on keywords for your web site's content, you are losing to much traffic. There is several fields in SEO where and how to use keywords (anchor texts). Here I'll focus on link keywords in link building campaigns. The main keyword for my web site is SEO, that's why I put it in my domain. My targeted audience is people who are looking for information about SEO, which includes internet promotion, link building tips, link exchange advices and such. In my link building efforts I should focus on using these keywords to rank higher in search engines.

What does your title say about your web site?

So, how to decide what to put in the title? First, put the name of the web site. In this case we can see that domain of the web site contains no keywords. When your domain is a keyword in the same time, than you killed two flies with one hit. Otherwise, you "slipped" precious keyword space in your title.
